JANUARY

From tiny seeds large veggies do grow. And raspberries are not good neighbours?

Posted on Updated on

The veggie order was placed last week. Seemed like a lot. But my new seeds arrived on Saturday and I always feel a little disappointed. Probably because large veggies grow from tiny seeds! (let’s hope) and….now I have to wait patiently to sow!!.. Although I have spotted a few I can get in early!

Potatoes came today, and raspberry canes are due in the next few weeks! No excuse to not be ready! I have made a mad sketch for my raspberry plans! No idea if they will fit! Will take a measure stick and plot it out next Saturday. I need to build some supports too and some fancy wire structures. And source some mulch! I was curious about companion plants but everything I read says that raspberry canes will obliterate any neighbours. So I will update.

We visited our friend last weekend, and as you do…we went to see her allotment! Such allotment geeks! They are allowed chickens! …So feeling all inspired I sorted out my seed box for the year. I’m a very messy gardener! I found that I have 3 packets of my favourite tomato seeds! And I ordered a special project seed: the soy bean!! My plan is to try and grow everything this year! No excuses!!

Get set…

Weekend trip to the plot. We had a great spring clean; and did a good job clearing the large sacks of weeds that had accumulated! I have paths again!! Although I filled them back up on Sunday!

My beautiful assistant helped to dig the beds and clear an area to store my growing hoops. So we are feeeling a bit more organised… Less manic dumping! I now how a beautiful s shaped bed. But less path, bit more growing.

We dug the very back bed… Moved the dreaded tank around again… One day I will get that beast off the plot!

Plot looks a bit off a mess… But it’s organised chaos (honest)! Looking forward to getting my remaining weed block paths down once the weather improves a bit.

I went back on the Sunday and had a great greenhouse tidy… Usually I don’t see spiders yesterday I found this chap!

Eeeek! He scuttled off… no doubt to suprise me on another day!

Getting all set for spring time! But still more work to do!

New year. New broom!

Had a great day digging on Sunday. Even in the cold! And to prove it I found my greenhouse thermometer. It was 4c inside our greenhouse. But got up to a snug 52c in the summer!

As you can see from my muddy paws it was a bit wet and I eventually admitted defeat… But I got a good 3 hours in.

I got 3 of my 4 bags of well rotted manure down. I gave all those beds a light dig and weed as needed, and added a nice cozy manure duvet.

And I came up with a new plan. U shaped beds
A. More space.
B. less path to maintain. Hopefully it’s win win.

I also purchase a broom (have wanted a broom for ages!) and some seeds! Getting excited about the year ahead!!

I had a little spruce in the greenhouse. Removing my old tomatoes plants (I know it’s bad!)

Next week’s plan:
-A dump run. Might be the time to say goodbye to the giant water tank.
-Further greenhouse tidying. Removing of moss!! And fixing the door. The plastic finally degraded this winter. But staple gun and some sheeting can’t fix.
-Purchase a few more meters of the ground sheet material and pegs needed to stake it in.
-Start my sweet peas. Inside… Perhaps
-Draw up an actual plan!
-Order my fruit trees for Feb

2015 plotting

So the grass grew! Flossie didn’t find it half as interesting as the poisonous plants…. But we will try again in the summer time.

She has come on leaps and bounds.. And is currently sat on my lap 🙂 helping me to plan 2015 allotment.

I went for a dig just before 2015 began. The ground was so cold I didn’t get much done… This is the sight when I arrived…its a bit of a mess. But not too bad.

After a little tidy!… It’s a work in progress at least. Tomorrow is a big plot day. Lots to do!

It’s been a horrid rainy day today so I have done a bit of drawing inspired by our furry friend. The plan is to do a pet portrait.. inspired by the style of this lady… Starla Michelle halfman.

Waiting for the grass to grow….

Posted on Updated on

So I’m growing some cat grass for miss flossie. But I’m waiting till it gets to 4/5 cm before she eats it all. It’s going to be a while….

Floss decided to try and every poisonous house plant that we own…. So cat grass seemed a possitive way forward. And the poisonous plants have been removed. I knew Lilly’s were bad for cats, but apparently cheese plants too! Sadly my two favourite house plants… They have been relocated to an off limit bedroom for now. But awaiting a new home.
Whilst I’m waiting for the grass to grown…. Here are some cute cats pics
