I’m back after a weeks holiday! Beach eat sleep repeat. It was blissful!
And the plot has had a great time being looked after by my mother! Although I sespect she harvested nothing…. as this is my bounty!
So I have set to work, and made:
-Leeks and potatoes from previous harvest went into dinner last night
I plan to make:
-Tomatoe, courgette and chilli chutney… Not sure if I will do a few variations and also get some green tomatoes involved…I have tried a few recipes in the past …but any suggestions?
– possible some sort of pickled chilli and Courgette?
-pickled beetroots or beetroot chutney?
Basically our house will smell rancid with chutney wafts this week!! I’m thinking to try and make a chutney each night after work 🙂
…Can you make leek chutney?!
My parents saved the sunflowers with some large wooden stakes….and fixed up my raspberries. Once I have had all the fruit this year I need to work out how to cut them back (3 different season varieties) and then set up a proper training system for next year! 🙂 this was my first year with raspberries and I have to say they are amazing!!
Things I should have done:
Dug up my late potatoes. Although they are still flowering!?
Cut back my tomatoes (removing lower branches) to help to green ones to get ripe (not that it’s an issue at the moment) but they do need to be organised as I have let them run wild!
Admired my flowers
General tidy and organise!
My post from last week failed. So this week is a double update.
The plot has been thundering along during these last few weeks.
And with the addition of some stone paths (at last!….a use for my mountain of stones!) it’s looking a bit smarter.
The chillies and greenhouse friends are all doing ok. But I might need to take them home to get them flowering.
I have got cucumbers appearing. And still going strong! This is my first year growing these so I am really chuffed!
We have had lots of strawberries already. And we have lots of plants dotted around the plot now. Mainly from runners. My original plants will be 4 next year, so this will be the last year and the runners from this year will take over. Although I might keep my oldies a bit longer. Feel sad to say goodbye!!
The raspberry bushes are even growing fruit! I really didn’t expect this as it is the first year. So they seem to be approving! And my 3 replacement raspberries appear… To be ok… But slow progress.
The sweet peas are doing well… And we have had our first blooms.
Are all doing ok.
I have started an Instagram page for all insta lovers @bloomorbustblog. Install the app to follow my photos and videos. http://instagram.com/download/?r=2125350044
My blog is rather glitch ridden at the moment. Hopefully my next post will be a bit easier!
Feeling a bit of a blog block at the moment! But the plot is making great progress. 🙂
Greenhouse has 12 resident tomatoes; in 4 grow bags. One resident cucumber plant also in a grow bag.
We kept the Physalis plants going…. and its been far to long…. but these have been potted on over the weekend. Having been given a good water and some growing space they are looking much stronger.
Outside my strawberries are turning out some good fruit. I really should net and straw them asap!
My garlic and onions are doing ok, but I have spotted some rust on a nearby plot. Just keeping my fingers crossed.
Bbeans are doing well after initially being dug up by accident! I’m seeing lots of flowers and turning a blind eye to the nibbled leaves.
I have planted sunflowers at the ends of each bed… Hopefully this will look very jolly once they shoot up. The sweet pea dividers seem to be growing along well! I’m waiting for the 14th June as that was our first proper buds last year and just in time for our wedding last year! After this date the sweet peas really got cracking, and this year we will be here to enjoy them 🙂 that’s only….18 days away!
I have all 9 raspberry plans in… Suppounded by strawberry runners from last year. I figured these would be the most determine to battle the raspberry rambling spirit! My 3 mid season were a toltal fail so I got them replaced… I’m keeping my fingers crossed for the new plants… But I doubt I will get much from them this year.
Otherwise it’s the z bed….spinach, rocket, Courgette 1, beetroot, carrot (patchy and I don’t like carrots… He he heee!) And leeks.
And potatoes! And Courgette 2…. And some cheeky spring onions. It appears I killed my rhubarb plant… One to try again.
I have lots still on pots… Needing homes… It’s a mission to fit it all in. but I will find a way!
I got the hammock stand up and bbq out (as no space in greenhouse) 🙂 just need a sunny weekend to enjoy some lounging!
We went to the plot last night for a quick water run. It’s always great to see progress even when you are not looking.
The beds are almost all set:
Strawberries and a few onions
Garlic and onions
Greenhouse bed: Flowers and illegal strawberries 🙂
Raspberries full season. And strawberries friends. Although my mid season never grew. So I had a moan… Replacements being sent end of May.
Potatoes… All but my last maincrop went in. I need to find a late spot for these…. I have a plan. But it’s going to take some hard graft!
Things outside in pots…. To go into ground:
Sweet pea left overs
California poppy… Need to divide and plant out
Things in greenhouse:
Tomatoes… Far to many so some of these will require re home this weekend?
Cucumber plants…re home some again and trade for Courgette plants
Sunflowers that didn’t get eaten by mouse… to go outside to toughen up. And I need to source some more!
Cape gooseberry (aka Ryan gosling gosberries)
And I have more seeds to sow and re sow!
